Meet the Doctors

​Dr. Arboleda, a Diplomate with the American Board of Optometry, attended the University of California, Irvine and majored in Biological Sciences. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry in 1987 and graduated with Cum Laude distinction.

​Dr. Arboleda is a member of the California Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, the AOA Contact Lens Section, Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society for academic excellence and Orange County Optometric Association. 

She is certified and licensed in the use of therapeutic agents to detect, treat, and manage many conditions such as eye infections, inflammations, dry eyes, allergies, diabetes, and high blood pressure. 

Dr. Arboleda has been practicing optometry in Huntington Beach since 1997. Married to Dr. Germundsen since 1988, she was born and raised in Okinawa, Japan and Tehran, Iran. She has called Southern California her home since 1976. Along with her husband, she enjoys fun and adventure while traveling the world, especially with their daughters Dr. Kristi and Dr. Melissa to create lifetime memories.

Dr. Janay Sekhon is glaucoma and TPA (therapeutic pharmacological agent) certified. She earned (with distinction) her Bachelor of Science from the University of Calgary, Canada and received her Doctorate of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry where she graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors in 2007.

​Notable research achievements include several investigations into the effects of excessive levels of serotonin on the morphology of neurons.

Dr. Sekhon's clinical interests include contact lenses and ocular pathology. Dr. Sekhon enjoys the use of the advanced technology available at Beachside Optometry allowing for earlier detection ​and better management of complications associated with diabetes, macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataracts.

​When she isn't chauffeuring her two boys to their various sports activities, in her spare time, ​Dr. Sekhon enjoys spending time with her husband and her two dogs. Her communication skills with children make them feel at ease and inquisitive about their vision. She thoroughly enjoys her profession and the positive impact it has on children. ​​​​

Dr. Kristi Germundsen has lived in the Huntington Beach area her entire life. She attended Sts. Simon and Jude grade school and Mater Dei high school where she played water polo and was featured as OC Register's scholar athlete of the week. She received her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine and her doctorate from Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University.

​Her fourth year optometric intenship included Amarillo Veterans' Affairs Health Care System in Texas, Veterans' Affairs Southern Nevada Health Care System, Ketchum Health in Anaheim, CA. and the U.S. Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan.

Dr. Kristi joined the practice in 2019 and is excited to take care of all her patients' needs. She brings her knowledge of medical management of glaucoma and diabetic eye diseases, co-management of cataracts, lasik and refractive procedures, treatment of eye emergencies and the fitting of specialty contact lenses on hard to fit eyes.

In her spare time, Dr. Kristi loves to travel and being a huge fan of Disney, you may find her at Disneyland park on her days off.

Dr. Michelle Nguyen Kirk is a glaucoma certified optometrist who is a native to Southern California. She graduated with the highest honors and as valedictorian of her class at Southern California College of Optometry. Dr. Kirk has earned several awards including the Art Optical Contact Lens Award and the Herbert McCracken Dixon Memorial Scholarship. She has also earned top recognition for her research in the area of glaucoma while at SCCO.

Dr. Kirk has a special interest in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma. She is well versed in the most advanced imaging technologies used in the care of glaucoma and continues to stay on top of the field through her continued education.

​When not working, Dr. Kirk enjoys crafting, baking, and spending time with her husband and daughters.

Dr. Melissa Germundsen joined Beachside Optometry in 2021. She earned her Biology, B.S. degree with honors from University of California, Los Angeles and her doctorate from Southern California College of Optometry where she graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors.

Dr. Melissa spent her fourth year optometric internship providing care to patients at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System, the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, and an ophthalmology practice in Las Vegas.

Dr. Melissa adds to an already diverse skill set at Beachside with her knowledge and experience on myopia control, management of ocular disease including glaucoma and macular degeneration, co-management of cataracts, and treatment of eye emergencies.

Outside of the office, you will find her at the beach or traveling with her husband, daughter, and golden retriever.

Dr. Catelyn Price earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Pepperdine University and her Doctor of Optometry degree from Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry, where she graduated with honors.

During optometry school, Dr. Price received the Merit Scholarship and the VSP/AAOF Vision Practice Excellence Scholarship. She is also a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa (BSK) National Honor Society and the Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society.

Dr. Price completed her fourth-year clinical training at the Viera VA Medical Center in Florida, the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Tennessee, LASIK PLUS in Denver, Colorado, and Orange County Retina. She graduated at the top of her optometry class in 2026 and gained extensive clinical experience in primary care, pediatrics, ocular disease management, and pre- and post-operative refractive surgery care.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Price enjoys spending time with family, traveling to new places, and discovering new gluten-free foods. She is passionate about providing thoughtful, personalized care and helping patients feel comfortable and confident in their eye health.
