Insurance & Payments

Insurance & Payment

We accept most vision plans and most PPO medical insurance. If you're not sure what your plan covers, call us at (714) 962-9377 — we'll check your benefits before your visit so there are no surprises.

Vision Plan or Medical Insurance

Most patients have both, and which one we bill depends on why you're coming in.

Your vision plan covers routine care: an annual eye exam to check your vision and update your prescription, plus an allowance toward glasses or contact lenses. Your medical insurance covers everything to do with the health of your eyes. A red or painful eye, an injury, sudden floaters, dry eye treatment, and ongoing conditions like glaucoma, diabetes, or macular degeneration are all medical visits. These are billed to your medical plan with your usual copay or deductible.

This is why we ask you to bring both cards. Not sure which applies to your visit? Call us and we'll sort it out before you come in.

If your HMO is with a different medical group, we generally can't bill your medical plan — but your vision plan may still cover a routine exam, and you're welcome as a self-pay patient. Call us and we'll sort out what applies.

Diabetic eye exams are covered under most medical plans. If you were referred by your physician, we'll send a report back to their office after your visit.

Don't see your plan? Call us. Coverage changes, and we may be able to work with your plan even if it isn't listed

A Few Things Insurance Won’t Cover

We'd rather tell you now than at checkout.

Refraction. Determining your glasses prescription is a separate charge that Medicare and most medical plans don't cover. It's $45 when it isn't covered, and typically included if you have a vision plan.

Contact lens fittings. A contact lens evaluation is more involved than a glasses prescription and is billed separately from your exam. Some vision plans include an allowance toward it. See our Contact Lens Exams & Training page.

Specialty services. Myopia control for children and some specialty contact lens fittings are generally not covered as programs, though materials allowances often apply. Medically necessary contact lenses may be covered under your vision plan — we'll check for you.

Premium lens options. Progressives, anti-reflective coatings, and photochromics are typically partially covered. Our opticians will show you exactly where your allowance lands before you order anything.

No Insurance?

You're welcome here. A comprehensive eye exam starts at $130, including Optos retinal imaging. New patient exams and contact lens evaluations are higher. Call us and we'll give you your exact cost before your visit — no surprises at checkout.
